A story in six old Berlin rooftop windows

ALLESANDERSSTADT

Discarded materials become miniature city worlds. A grey Berlin shaped from above slowly transforms into a living ecosystem built from below by insects, flower headed figures, art, culture, and returning nature.

In what kind of city do we want to live?

The story begins in a grey, concrete city shaped by consumption, top down planning, and the loss of shared living space. Nature has been pushed underground. Its smallest inhabitants begin a transformation that grows from one being to another, then from one building to an entire city.

At the centre is a white blossoming plant that makes universal language possible. Through communication, beings who once lived separately can recognise their shared dependence and begin building ALLESANDERSSTADT together.

The inhabitants

Three forms of life.
Three roles in the transformation.

Cigarettes

The burned out consumers

The cigarettes represent exhausted people shaped by overconsumption: used up, discarded, and disconnected from nature, culture, and one another. They are not enemies. They carry the possibility of change, even when they cannot yet see that the city’s living space must belong to everyone.

Insects

Hidden nature and its teachers

Mostly appearing as beetles, the insects represent nature returning to the concrete city. Forced underground as their habitat disappears, they develop the universal language plant. They help the cigarettes not from superiority, but because a shared ecosystem is necessary for every form of life.

The transformed cigarettes

After receiving the white blossom, a burned out cigarette can speak and understand the universal language. Its inner change becomes visible: it turns into a rolled paper filter tip with a flower as its head. Together with the insects, these transformed beings become the builders of ALLESANDERSSTADT.

The connecting force

The universal language plant

The plant looks real and carries white blossoms. Its power is symbolic: it allows different beings to communicate, recognise one another, and understand that they belong to the same living system. Language becomes the first material from which the new city is built.
